Network cabling cost in Ontario: what affects the price

Why two cabling quotes can differ, and how to get an accurate one for your site.

Why there is no single price

Cabling is priced by the job, not by the metre. Two offices with the same number of desks can cost very different amounts to cable, because the building decides how hard the work is.

What drives the price

  • The number of cable drops and how far each one runs
  • Cable type: Cat6 or Cat6A (see our comparison)
  • Ceiling and wall access: open ceilings, finished drywall, concrete or conduit
  • Racks, patch panels and switches that need installing or tidying
  • Testing, labelling and documentation
  • Working hours: after-hours work and building access rules
  • Whether existing cabling can be reused

What a good quote includes

  • The number and location of drops
  • The cable category and what is being installed at each end
  • Rack, patch panel and cable management work
  • Testing and labelling of every run
  • Clear exclusions, such as electrical work or core drilling

The cheapest quote is often the one that leaves out testing, labelling or tidy-up. Compare scope before comparing totals.

How to get a fast, accurate quote

  • Send a floor plan, or a rough sketch with desk and device locations
  • Tell us how many drops, access points and cameras you expect
  • Send photos of the ceiling, the rack area and the building entrance
  • Give your deadline and any access restrictions

Then request a quote and we will follow up with a walkthrough or plan review.

Common questions

Is it cheaper to cable an empty space?

Usually it is easier. Open ceilings and unfinished walls make installation faster and cleaner, so plan cabling before the space is finished if you can.

Can you give a price over the phone?

We can give guidance, but an accurate price needs details about the building and the number of drops. We provide a written quote after a walkthrough or plan review.

Does cabling need to be tested?

Yes. Testing confirms every run works before you move in, and labelled results make later troubleshooting much faster.
