Office move IT checklist: cabling, internet and equipment
A practical list for moving an office without losing days to network problems.
Start early
Most office move problems come from late planning. Internet service lead times vary, so book it as soon as the lease is signed.
Before the move
- Get the new floor plan and mark desks, printers, meeting rooms, access points and cameras
- Decide how many cable drops each location needs, with spares
- Choose the network rack location and check it has power and ventilation
- Book the internet installation and confirm where it enters the unit
- List every device you are moving, and what needs replacing
- Back up all data and test that you can restore it
Cabling and network
Install network cabling before furniture and boxes arrive. Ask for every run to be tested and labelled at both ends. See Cat6 vs Cat6A if you are unsure which to choose.
Move day
- Label equipment and cables before unplugging anything
- Move servers and network equipment last, and set them up first
- Have your IT provider available on the day
After the move
- Test every desk, printer and Wi-Fi area
- Confirm backups are running at the new site
- Update your Google Business Profile and website address

Common questions
How long before a move should I plan the cabling?
As early as possible. Planning before the lease is signed lets you check the space, and installation is easiest before the office is furnished.
Can you move our servers and network equipment?
Yes. Tell us what you have and when you need to be running, and we plan the move day with you.
Do I need new equipment for the new office?
Not always. We review what you have and recommend only what is needed.
